Mr. R and his 3 year old cousin went to visit the zoo recently. He was very excited to do this activity when he came home. These printable worksheets will help with letter recognition. There is one included for each letter (26 worksheets in total). Help get the animals back to the zoo!

Start it up

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.19.11″]

This is a print and play activity that you can have your child do all in one sitting or spread them out over 26 days or weeks, depending on what you’re working on right now and the age of your child.

Mr. R is able to recognize all the letters already so he raced through these in one sitting. He also excitedly shared with me some interesting facts that he could recall from his trip to the zoo and from his animals book.

Level up

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.19.11″]

You could ask your child to sound out the letter as they make their way through the maze. This will help them develop their reading skills.

Another way to change up this worksheet is to ask your child to count how many “letter steps” the animal needs to take to get back to the zoo. This way they’re working on both letters and numbers at the same time.

Pair it up

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.19.11″]

There are so many great books on animals and learning letters available. But the ones that taught Mr. R all the interesting animal facts was the National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Animals and Ocean.

1. National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book Of Animals and Ocean – These reference books may be a bit advanced but it’s one that you can keep in the library for many years to come. It’s a whole series of books in fact so it’s nice to start a little collection of them. I recommended the dinosaur one in this previous dinosaur-themed activity.

2. It would also be fun to pair this activity with little animal toys for some dramatic/imaginative play. This set come with a zoo enclosure as well.

Enjoy!
